Friday, 28 October 2011

This is Friday into my 7th week into my project movement and motion! The week began pretty hectic as we had assessments this week on Monday and Tuesday so everyone was busy working on there projects for the last while trying to get as much work done before our work was looked at! While I have been still been drawing pictures to do with everyday repetitive movements throughout the day I have also been trying to incorporate 3d aspects into my project by using wire and plaster paras mostly while I have not finished these yet I hope to have pictures up by next week! I also have been working on my history essay that we received last week as this is an important part of our assessments! We also have a portrait picture project that I have been working on that is due for the 1st of November!

This week I have been concentrating more on different materials rather than pencil and pen as I have found when looking through my work that I have used it allot over the course of the project so far! For the past while I have been trying to use more paint paper cuttings such as collage I found this interesting as I found that I had overused pencil in my work!

In this collage picture I tried to till work on everyday movements throughout the day and how even a task like eating ann apple can be quite repetitive! As I have been trying to focus less on pencil I used collage as a technique!
In this I was looking at how the face can be distorted!

I was experimenting here with plaster paras and wire, although it did not work out as I had planned it did have a 3dimentional quality to it!

again here I was trying to put forward the boring repetitions of are daily life by reading a magazines and drinking tea in the afternoon!

During the week I also made a plaster paras mould of my face I hope to mould it with rubber to create a face mould and then maybe distort it, I would also try and work on print and textiles over the coming weeks!

movements of the day

This is one of my mindmaps for the project!

These are some drawings I created of the movements throughout the day, such as brushing your theath, putting on makeup eating etc!

I tried to  capture my dad creating the movements of my dad swinging the golf club!

In theses series of pictures of my sister I tried to create a series or the same picture by changing the background or colouring the background!

Movement and motion

Hi my name is Michelle Doyle, I am 19 years old and am in my first year in Limerick school of art and design.
This is my fifth week at college and this is my first blog I have posted. The first thing I did after getting the project title 'movement and motion' was made some mind maps so that I could get ideas for my project, I found that making the mind maps helped me as it gave me a starting ideas for the project. For the last couple of weeks I have been mostly working on my sketchbooks where I have been sketching ideas, taking pictures and looking up images on the Internet.
My idea that I seem to have settled on at the moment is the movement throughout the day in which I am looking at the day through the motions from when you get up to when you go to sleep.
Although I have found my first few weeks of art college very interesting and exciting, I have also found the transition from school and the leaving cert which was very structured to college tough in that there is a lot less structure to college life and I have felt at times out of my depth.
At the moment in my project I am taking pictures of my everyday movements and sketching. Last Thursday we also went to the Dublin contemporary exhibition and some other art gallery's I found this very interesting and also showed me that good art does not always have to be conventional and that the most important aspect of art is the ideas before the finished product. In the upcoming week I hope to try and incorporate different mediums such as sculpture into my project I also hope to post pictures of my work onto my blog.
